Behavior & emotions
- Seems fearful, anxious, hypervigilant, or unusually withdrawn
- Avoids eye contact; appears coached on what to say
- Cannot speak for themselves; someone else answers everything
- Sudden changes in behavior, attendance, or routine
- Shows signs of trauma, depression, or extreme stress
Situation & control
- Not allowed to come/go freely
- Doesn’t control money, phone, ID, or transportation
- Lives/works where security prevents leaving
- Has few personal items; belongings may be held by someone else
- Works excessively long hours, unusual schedules, or multiple locations
Online grooming & digital risks
- Secret online relationship; pressure to keep it hidden
- Requests for personal photos, location, or private conversations
- Promises of gifts/money/travel in exchange for “favors”
- Threats to share images or messages (blackmail)
- Sudden new “older friend” who becomes controlling
Safe response (what to do)
- Don’t confront a suspected trafficker.
- Prioritize safety for yourself and the person at risk.
- Document concerns (dates/places) if safe to do so.
